Comparative performance of wine closures

A study by researchers at the Excell Laboratory in France, published in 2000, has found that natural cork outperforms synthetic closures in a number of areas, particularly in regard to providing an effective seal against oxidation of the wine.

Research by the Faculty of Oenology at the University of Bordeaux 2 into the constitution of cork stoppers, their phenolic composition and the role of cork in wine improvement.
